1. Direct lightning protection measures adopt independent lightning rods for protection
According to the provisions of the "Code for Lightning Protection of Petroleum and Petroleum Facilities" (GB15599-2009) and the "Code for Design of Lightning Protection of Buildings" (GB50057-2010), direct lightning protection should be provided for fiberglass storage tanks by installing independent lightning rods. The horizontal distance between the independent lightning rod and the protected storage tank should not be less than 3m.
2. Install lightning rods directly on the top of the tank
When it is difficult to achieve using independent lightning rods, 3-4 lightning rods can be installed at the top guardrail of the fiberglass storage tank. The protection range of the lightning rod should be 1.5 meters above the tank top breathing valve and flame arrester. The installation position of the lightning rod at the guardrail should be evenly distributed.
When the storage tank has an external insulation layer, the design of the down conductor should refer to the "Code for Design of Lightning Protection of Buildings" (GB50057-2010) and the "Code for Construction and Acceptance of Lightning Protection Devices for Buildings" (DB37/1228-2009). The down conductor can be constructed using the vertical skeleton of the insulation layer, or installed in an exposed manner. The flame retardant performance of the insulation material should meet the fire protection requirements. When the insulation material cannot meet the fire protection requirements and the storage tank does not have an external insulation layer, the down lead should be laid openly, with a distance of more than 0.1m from the tank wall, and the metal fixed bracket can be in contact with the tank wall.
